What is Guiding Light?

Guiding Light online is the Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education Collective Worship programme for High Schools and Academies.


It is a programme which covers all aspects of school and academy life linked to leadership and management, and the delivery of the Collective Worship, the legal requirement and Statement of Entitlement for Collective Worship.


Each of the resources for worship comes with a suite of support materials for Key Stages 3-5.

The Benefits of Collective Worship

Collective Worship when delivered effectively contributes to the mental health wellbeing of all, nurtining students social, moral and spirital development. Quality Collective Worship promotes a reflective and contemplative response which can break down barriers and build communities, enabling and developing respect for others.

Download a sample of one of the resources, written to reflect the use of core concepts Christian and shared values.

‘TBOX’ links to a variety of biblical translations and formats and offers the opportunity for students to lead short times of reflection enabling all to engage through enquiry based questions and contemporary examples.

The ‘TBOX’ contains 72 Reflection cards supporting reflection and worship time, promoting wellbeing and spiritual development in HighSchools and Academies.

This resource can be used across the Key stages as a self contained act of worship or as the foundation for a more in depth time of reflection.

The programme for Collective Worship focuses on the delivery of inspirational, invitational and inclusive time for worship, as part of the school day in the secondary phase of education. Through an open investigative enquiry approach the students will be given the sense of being on an exciting journey of learning and discovery.
